Take Action

The November 23 deadline for the Super Committee to vote on their proposal is drawing near.  As we wait for details to emerge from the Agriculture and Super Committees, we must continue to apply pressure of no cuts to anti-hunger programs. Time is running out.  It is critical that every supporter mobilize and weigh in with their representatives over the next week because the window to influence the process is quickly closing—if there is a bill that emerges from the Super Committee, there will not be an opportunity to amend the legislation. With little time remaining, our efforts need to shift to generating calls urging our Senators and Representatives to weigh in with the Super Committee.
 

Here are two advocacy actions we need help with:

• Call Congress!  Ask your Members of Congress to weigh in with the Super Committee and urge them to reject any proposals to cut any type of funding from anti-hunger programs including SNAP, TEFAP, CSFP, and WIC. Call the toll free hotline, 1-877-698-8228 to help us generate thousands of calls to Congress!  Our partners are urging calls all week, so if you don't get through on the first try, keep tryin!
  
• Write personal letters to Congress.  To complement your call, we are urging you to write a letter to your Members of Congress as part of a national letter writing campaign about the need, importance, and impact of anti-hunger programs.  We have heard directly from Members of Congress how important and persuasive these stories can be.  Be sure to send your letters to the district office of your Members of Congress or use the Hunger Action Center to write your own personal email. Remember, the Super Committee process is only the beginning, so it is important to continue to show constituent support for these programs.
